The Jingasa is coated thickly with black lacquer, perhaps to prevent rust.
The reverse side of jingasa is covered with black lacquer over a thin cloth.
The family crest on the jingasa is “cross rice plants“(違い稲：Chigai Ine)
Musketeers often wore iron jinkasa instead of wood because they were more likely than other troops to be shot by enemy muskets.
