The pedestal is nailed, but is decayed and easily pulled out.
A Dazaifu talisman and a clay figure of Daikoku-sama are housed inside the kamidana. The deity worshipped at Dazaifu is Sugawara no Michizane, a famous scholar of the Heian period. As the god of learning, temples have been built throughout Japan with him as the main deity.
There is a custom in Japanese houses since ancient times to place small Buddha statues and money inside for daily worship. This kamidana was probably carefully passed down through the generations in such houses while being repaired.
